Type: German Pilsener
Brewing Company: Mission Brewery
Details: Mission medium chunky salsa with Santitas yellow corn tortillas chips.
The beer was good, the salsa was good, the two together were fine.
Pilsner is brewed by Mission Brewery in San Diego, California. The brewery describes the beer as “light, crisp and full of noble hop flavor”. They also claim that they “took this Pilsner to the next level by dry hopping it”.
Pilsner isn’t typically my beer style of choice but the other beers I’ve tried from Mission Brewery have been pretty good so i figured this was worth trying. This pilsner did have a light and refreshing taste to it. It was much better than expected and is a very nice beer to drink on a warm day.
Chips and salsa are always a great snack to munch on. We had a medium spiciness salsa and regular tortilla chips. Nothing too special, but very tasty.
The big question is: how was the beer with the food? The answer is: fine. The beer and the salsa seemed the same when paired, neither flavor really changed. It was a bit surprising since there was some spice in the salsa that seems like it would have affected the beer.
Overall, it was a good pairing. The beer was good and the food was good. Neither flavor enhanced each other but they also didn’t worsen each others flavors.
